2010 EPT Vienna
The EPT Vienna is the largest poker event in Austrian history, attracting a total of 587 players and boasting a prize pool of €2,935,000. First place alone is worth €700,000. While there were some initial worries that the large prize pool might attract criminal interest – especially in the wake of robberies at other major European poker tournaments – local police have promised heightened security for the event, which should prevent any incidents.
This event marks the first time the EPT has come to Vienna in five years. In 2005, the last EPT event in the city was won by Pascal Perrault, who took home €184,000 for first place. This year’s event not only features a larger field than the 2005 version, but also an increased buy-in; while €2,000 bought you a seat in the 2005 event, this year’s tournament cost €5,300 for perspective players.
